F2 + wood: common questions

How do I get a darker engrave on wood?

Lower the speed slightly or add a second pass rather than jumping the power to maximum. Small steps keep detail crisp instead of charring the surface.

Should I mask wood before engraving?

Masking keeps smoke staining off the surrounding surface, which matters most on light woods and anything you plan to paint fill. For deep engraves on darker woods most makers skip it.

Why do my results look different to yours?

Materials vary between batches and suppliers, machines drift, and focus matters. Treat every number here as a proven starting point, run a small test first, then adjust in small steps.
